Instant Pot Cabbage and Sausage
Cabbage and Sausage is a classic combination, and here’s a recipe for Instant Pot Cabbage and Sausage that’s tasty and easy to make. And leftovers of this are great just reheated in a frying pan!
Pin Instant Pot Cabbage and Sausage to try it later!
Even though there are a lot of Cabbage Recipes on my blog, every March when cabbage goes on sale I can’t resist coming up with at least one more recipe that uses cabbage, since I’m such a cabbage fan. And cabbage and sausage are both traditional Irish foods, so I think this Instant Pot Cabbage and Sausage could be great to make for a St. Patrick’s Day dinner, especially if you’re not making corned beef!
The cabbage only needs one minute under pressure in the Instant Pot! However, I do want to urge you to brown the sausage in a pan like I did. I know lots of Instant Pot fans don’t like to use another pan for browning, but for this recipe you want the browned sausage on top of the cabbage for more flavor and deglazing the frying pan with the chicken broth and then pouring it over the cabbage also adds flavor.
Even with that step or browning the sausage in a pan, this is still a very quick and easy recipe. If you like these two ingredients I hope you’ll try this for a quick and easy dinner!
What ingredients do you need for this recipe?
- Olive Oil (affiliate link)
- pre-cooked sausage
- cabbage
- butter
- canned chicken broth (affiliate link)
- salt and fresh-ground black pepper
What kind of sausage did I use for the Cabbage and Sausage?
I used all-beef Kielbasa for this recipe. But any sausage that has good flavor will work.
Can you reheat leftovers of this recipe?
And I was pleasantly surprised at how good leftovers were when I heated a little olive oil in a hot skillet and quickly pan-fried the leftover cabbage and sausage for a few minutes. I enjoyed the leftovers as much as the original meal!
What size Instant Pot did I use?
I use a 6 Quart Instant Pot (affiliate link) for all my Instant Pot Recipes! You can find more Instant Pot Recipes on my other site, Slow Cooker or Pressure Cooker.

Low-Carb Diet / Low-Glycemic Diet / South Beach Diet Suggestions:
This is a tasty dish for low-carb, Keto, and low-glycemic diet plans, although cabbage does have some carbs. It would probably be too high in fat for the original South Beach Diet.

Thought this was great. I added two medium sliced yellow onions (softened in the skillet) and three cloves of garlic (diced and toasted in the skillet) before deglazing the skillet. It was great.
I like your additions and I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for taking time to let me know.
This recipe is very flavorful. We have made itย multiple times especially because itโs also quick and easy to make.ย
So glad you have enjoyed the recipe! Thanks for taking time to let me know.
1 cup of water in instant pot and cabbage put in that? ย ย Or cabbage in a basket separated from the water? ย Not clear thx
I use chicken broth, not water.
This is how I did it: “Deglaze the pan you cooked the sausage in with the chicken broth, and then pour that over the sausage and cabbage.”
So the broth you deglazed the pan with is poured over the sausage and cabbage.
Can this be made without an insta pot?
Sorry I missed this comment. I moved my site to a new web host, and the site was up but I just realized today that no comments were coming to my e-mail for NINE DAYS, yikes.
This can probably be made without the Instant Pot. Maybe check out my recipe for Fried Cabbage with Bacon and just switch out the bacon for sausage.
Excellent recipe
Thanks! I look forward to making this when a few guys come over to help me hang some heavy items!
I’ll add sautรฉed onions, as this is a penna coal region favorite with our homemade kielbasa!
Yes, onion would be a great addition to this; hope you enjoy!
