Should you use thick or thin asparagus for this ham and asparagus recipe?
I prefer thicker spears of asparagus for roasting. If your store only has thin asparagus you might want to reduce the cooking time by a few minutes.
Is thick ham a must for the ham and asparagus sheet pan meal?
I wanted a recipe where the ham could bake while the asparagus roasts on the sheet pan, so I use fairly thick slices of ham. But when we tested this the ham was nice and juicy and I think you could use slightly thinner pieces of ham if that’s what you have. If you only have very thinly sliced ham, I’d wrap the ham in foil for the first part of the cooking time and then unwrap when you sprinkle it with Parmesan cheese.

Be sure to look for ham that doesn’t have added sugar if you want this ham and asparagus recipe to be low in carbs. With that caution, this recipe would be great for any low-carb or Keto diet. I would eat this for any phase of the original South Beach Diet, but South Beach would recommend choosing lean ham.
