There’s a special-dinner event coming up this weekend and I bet most of you are making dinner at home this year. So I’m excited to recommend this new recipe for Air Fryer Roasted Mushrooms for a super easy side dish, no matter what you’re making for dinner. In fact these roasted mushrooms take only 10 minutes to cook in the Air Fryer, plus a few minutes to clean the mushroom and toss them with a flavorful cooking liquid. If you like mushrooms I bet you’ll make this over and over!

Kara and I experimented a bit to decide on the cooking time for the roasted mushrooms, but the time is going to depend on the size of the mushrooms you use. We used those extra-large brown Cremini mushrooms from Costco, and 10 minutes was perfect for those. If your mushrooms are on the smaller side, I would start checking them after 7 or 8 minutes. Otherwise, this recipe is pretty much foolproof!

What if you don’t have an Air Fryer?

There’s a recipe on the blog for Greek Style Roasted Mushrooms that cook at 450F/230C. Or use the ingredients in this recipe and follow the instructions in the printer-friendly recipe for Roasted Mushrooms with Garlic, Thyme, and Balsamic Vinegar if you want to cook them at 400F/200C.

Which Air Fryer do I use?

I became a big Air Fryer fan after I discovered the Cuisinart Convection Air Fryer Toaster Oven (affiliate link) which is what I used for this recipe. This air fryer has a larger basket, which was big enough to do a whole pound of mushrooms, and I find this model very easy to use. I also like the convenience of having an air fryer that stays out on the counter. (You can Use Air Fryer Recipes to see the other Air Fryer recipes on my site.)

What ingredients do you need for this recipe?

  • large mushrooms (we used brown Cremini mushrooms, but white mushrooms will also be good)
  • olive oil
  • soy sauce, or Gluten-Free Soy Sauce (affiliate link) if needed
  • Garlic Powder (affiliate link)
  • fresh-ground black pepper to taste
  • freshly-grated Parmesan cheese for serving (optional)

How to make roasted mushrooms in the Air Fryer:

(Scroll down for complete recipe with nutritional information.)

  1. Gently wash mushrooms in a colander.
  2. Blot mushrooms dry with paper towels.
  3. Trim the end of the mushroom stem and cut each mushroom in half.
  4. Whisk together olive oil, soy sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  5. Put mushrooms into a bowl and toss with the cooking liquid until all mushrooms are coated with the mixture.
  6. Spread out mushrooms in the Air Fryer basket, cut side down.
  7. I wish you could see it better in the photos, but after I had to buy a new tray and basket for my Air Fryer I finally got smart enough to cover the tray with foil. Don’t cover the side where the tray slides into the air fryer.
  8. Preheat Air Fryer to 400F/200C (as needed.)
  9. Cook mushrooms 5 minutes.
  10. Remove basket and tray from Air Fryer and turn over mushrooms so cut side is up.
  11. Cook 5 minutes more, or slightly less for smaller mushrooms.
  12. Serve hot, sprinkled with freshly-grated Parmesan cheese if desired.

  1. Kalyn – I have the same air fryer and I love it.  Why did you have to buy a new basket and tray?  Mine definitely don’t come as clean as I’d like….

What tips do you have for foil/parchment paper?  I put aluminum foil on the tray and it helps a lot with the cleanup.

    • My basket and tray were too dirty to use for food photography. I kept them for everyday cooking, but it is nice to have shiny new ones! I don’t think parchment paper would work in an air fryer, but lining the tray with foil was really great. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that sooner!

  2. My Cuisinart Air Fryer arrives tomorrow!  This recipe looks like a great one to take on my air fryer’s maiden voyage!
Are you saying that you lined the bottom of the basket with foil?  And also you covered the tray beneath the basket?  Sounds like that would make cleanup a breeze.

    • You don’t want to put foil on the basket, because air has to circulate for the Air Fryer to work, but I covered the tray with foil. I wish I had done that a lot sooner! Enjoy the new Air Fryer!
