Why I Love Genova Tuna in Olive Oil
Genova Tuna in Olive Oil is something I grab often from the pantry to make a simple lunch or a light dinner! This post talks about why I love this brand of tuna so much and shares some recipes where I use it!
PIN Genova Tuna in Olive Oil to find it later!
Genova Tuna in Olive Oil is a product I started buying in the early days of my blog, after I fell in love with the flavor of tuna packed in olive oil. And my love for tuna in olive oil started with an interesting Italian tuna salad I saw on a friends blog, way, way back in the early days of blogging.
I absolutely loved the flavor of the tuna packed in olive oil, which was so different from the kind of tuna my mom bought when I was growing up in a family of ten kids! And for a while I did buy imported Italian tuna, which was delicious of course.
But then one day I was shopping at a now-closed Salt Lake grocery store and I saw Genova Tuna in Olive Oil on the shelf. I bought some and was so happy with the flavor, which I thought was quite comparable with the imported Italian tuna I had been buying. Since then I’ve always had some of this olive-oil packed tuna in my pantry.
Why do I love this Tuna in Olive Oil so much?
- Of course the number one reason I love this type of tuna and the Genova brand is the flavor! This tuna has a mild, pleasant flavor that I think is delicious right out of the can and I love to use it in a variety of recipes!
- I so like that this brand of tuna in olive oil comes in two sizes of cans. If I just want some tuna to go on a salad or make one tuna melt, I’ll use a three ounce can. If I’m making a recipe that uses more tuna, I use one or two of the 5 oz. cans.
- Tuna in olive oil has zero carbs and sugars, and one ounce has 2.9 grams of fat, 8.3 grams of protein, 13 mg. of cholesterol, and 15 mg. of sodium. And of course, it’s gluten-free.
- Tuna is high in omega-3 fatty acids which are beneficial for heart health.
- Genova Tuna comes in several varieties in different price ranges, and this brand uses wild-caught tuna.
- Genova Tuna was ranked well when Tasting Table compared brand of tuna.

Where do I buy Genova Tuna Packed in Olive Oil:
For years I could find this delicious tuna at my favorite store. But a few years ago I couldn’t find it any more it at any of the stores where I shop, so I started to buy Genova Tuna in Olive Oil (affiliate link) from Amazon.com. I always keep this in my pantry so I buy 8 cans at a time from Amazon, and it comes out to $2.24 per can for the 5 oz. cans. That’s an amazing price compared to the Italian tuna I used to buy. This is definitely a product I’ll be buying for a long time.
What kind of recipes do I make most with Tuna in Olive Oil?
I use tuna in salads like Nicoise Tuna Salad, Tuna Avocado Tomato Salad, and Tuna Stuffed Avocado. I love Tuna Macaroni Salad with Green Olives (made with Fiber Gourmet Light Elbows.) And I’m a huge fan of Tuna Salad Lettuce Wraps.
