Years ago I made Maple Glazed Salmon on the grill, and I loved the salmon with a glaze made of sugar-free maple Syrup, lime juice, and Sriracha Sauce. So when we were updating the photos for this salmon recipe, we decided to try the glaze on salmon cooked in the air fryer and in the oven. And the Maple Glazed Salmon was such a success with every method!

And having several options for a cooking method means you can now make this tasty salmon dinner any time of year! And I’m thinking this same sweet and spicy glaze would taste great on other types of fish or even chicken as well. I hope you will try it!

Can you make the glazed salmon with regular maple syrup?

I know some people may want to make this with regular maple syrup instead of the sugar-free maple syrup I used. I suspect (but don’t know for sure) that regular maple syrup will be more likely to burn on the grill. If you use regular maple syrup I’d start with the grill temperature a bit lower, and possibly turn the salmon a little sooner. For Air Fryer or oven cooking, I think regular maple syrup will be fine, but again I haven’t tried it. If anyone does try this with regular maple syrup, please let me know how it works!

Do you have to let the salmon come to room temperature?

If you cook the salmon directly out of the fridge, the cold inside part may not be done when the outside is cooked. That’s why I recommend letting the salmon come to room temperature before cooking it. And letting the glazed salmon sit a few minutes will also help it absorb some of the coating.

Which cooking method is fastest for Maple Glazed Salmon?

Whether you use the grill, the Air Fryer, the oven, this salmon won’t take long to cook. Once the salmon is ready, here are the cooking times:

  • 8-10 minutes on the grill,
  • 7 minutes in a preheated 450F/232C oven
  • 10 minutes in a preheated 400F/204C oven
  • about 6 minutes in the Air Fryer.

How to tell when the Salmon is done:

How firm salmon should be when it’s done is partly a matter of personal preference. And even the experts don’t agree; the USDA recommends you cook salmon until it’s 145F/62C on an Instant Read Meat Thermometer (affiliate link). But America’s Test Kitchen recommends an internal temperature of 125F/52C. I’m guessing most people would prefer a temperature somewhat between those two. If you don’t have a meat thermometer, the salmon should feel firm (but not hard) to the touch when you press down with a finger.

Is Maple-Glazed Salmon low in carbs?

With the sugar-free maple syrup we used, this amazing salmon has less than 3 net carbs per serving and 38 grams of protein!

Cooking the Salmon in the Air Fryer:

  3. Whisk together ingredients to make the glaze.
  4. Brush the salmon liberally on both sides with the glaze, put in Air Fryer basket, and continue to let it come to room temperature as needed.
  5. Cook salmon about 6 minutes in the Air Fryer, then check for doneness by pressing down on the fish with a finger. It should feel barely firm but not hard when it’s done. You can also check the temperature with an Instant-Read Meat thermometer if desired.

I used Szeged Fish Rub (affiliate link) which is a product I've been buying for years from Amazon.com. I used my fresh-frozen lime juice.

Low-Carb Diet / Low-Glycemic Diet / South Beach Diet Suggestions:
As long as you use sugar-free maple syrup, everything in this Maple Glazed Salmon recipe would be approved for any low-carb eating plan including Keto. It’s also great for all phases of the original South Beach Diet. (Even with regular maple syrup, the amount of sugar would be minimal, since you’re only eating the glaze that sticks to the fish.)
