Air Fryer Sausage and Peppers is a perfect example of how the Air Fryer can take ordinary ingredients and turn them into an amazing quick meal! That’s one of my top reasons for being an Air Fryer fan. I liked this sausage and peppers dinner so much that a week after we tested the recipe I made it for myself and ate the leftovers for several days! That doesn’t happen often in a house where there’s always food around from testing recipes.

Kara and I both like our sausage well-browned, so we put the Air Fryer rack on the top in the Cuisinart Convection Air Fryer Toaster Oven (affiliate link), but if you’d like your sausage a bit less browned use the lower shelf. And all Air Fryer brands cook differently, so I’d start checking a little sooner than the cooking time for each step of this recipe if you have a different Air Fryer.

My fondness for Italian Sausage with peppers is pretty well-documented, but this Air Fryer Sausage and Peppers is method for cooking them that will be a go-to for me now. If you like those ingredients, I hope you’ll give it a try.

What Italian Sausage is best for Air Fryer Sausage and Peppers?

Either hot Italian sausage or mild Italian sausage will be delicious in this easy dinner, so use the one your family prefers. I’m a fan of turkey Italian Sausage when I can find it, but pork sausage will also be delicious.

Can you use other colors of bell peppers for this recipe?

You can use yellow, orange, or even green bell peppers for the Air Fryer Sausage and Peppers if that’s what you have. I used the extra-large red bell peppers that show up in the fall, and they were on sale at my store!

Do you need onion for this recipe?

We liked the bit of onion in the Air Fryer Sausage and Peppers, but onion is optional. If your peppers aren’t that large, I might use one more pepper if you’re not using the onion.

How low in carbs is the Air Fryer Sausage and Peppers?

This easy Air Fryer dinner has only 7 net carbs per serving and 27 grams of protein!

Which Air Fryer do I use?

I became a big Air Fryer fan after I got the Cuisinart Convection Air Fryer Toaster Oven (affiliate link). This air fryer has a larger basket, which let me fit enough sausage and peppers for five servings for this recipe. I also like the convenience of having an air fryer that stays out on the counter.

What if you don’t have an Air Fryer?

I haven’t tried making this exact same recipe in the oven, but this Sheet Pan Meal should be helpful on the cooking temperature and cooking time for people who want to try that.

Low-Carb Diet / Low-Glycemic Diet / South Beach Diet Suggestions:
Air Fryer Sausage and Peppers is a great dinner for low-carb or Keto diet plans. Personally I would eat this for any phase of the original South Beach Diet, but South Beach would definitely recommend turkey Italian sausage, which I am having a hard time finding lately. (The fat content in the nutritional information is for pork sausage, so it would be quite a bit lower in fat with the turkey sausage.)
