Friday Night Photos: House Renovations v. 2.0.3
There’s been a lot of progress on the house renovations since the last update when my contractors were working in the snow and still managed to get the porch framed in. In fact the house project is moving along faster than I can manage to document it! I’m sharing pictures in order to create a record of what happened, so actually the project is a little farther along than you see here, and I’ve explained how the project has expanded with the decision to add a large new office/studio area. More about that next time, but when this photo was taken on January 17, I was just grateful to finally have a porch and (temporary) steps to the front door!
I enjoyed those steps for one day, and when I came home from work the next day my sidewalks all around the house were broken apart. Here’s the view from the corner of the new porch, looking at what once was the sidewalk. Can’t wait to have a new sidewalk here since my sidewalks have been in need of repair for years.
This is the view of the broken sidewalk standing on the porch and looking down the temporary wooden steps. I can’t imagine how all this got done in a day, but it did!
By the back door, the sidewalks were cracked apart, but not quite broken up. Looking at this picture, you can tell I won’t miss those old back steps. They were nicely painted green at one time, but that was about ten years ago. No peeling painted steps in my future, since my front steps, porch, and decks are all going to be made of Trex.
Just one day later and the back sidewalk was all broken up and removed, with even a little green lawn showing through. The left side of these steps had a big patch of mint, but I managed to get it mostly transplanted before the work started.
This is the sidewalk along the east side of the house, next to the driveway I’m renting from the neighbor. It will be so great to have a wider piece of sidewalk here, which we’re going to raise to be level with the driveway.
The next day, that cement was all removed and carried away by the time I got home from work. I’m impressed nearly every day when I get home by how much has been accomplished.
Finally, an action shot of Ben giving a preview of what is coming next week, because in this picture he had just started tearing off the back part of the house where the old office/hall had been to make room for the new addition. One day after this, the entire room where my blog was being written was laying in pieces in the yard, with all the office, computer, and photo stuff moved into it’s temporary home in the dining room. That’s enough renovations for one night though, so you’ll have to come back next week to see that.

It is all looking very exciting Kalyn. I’m sure you are looking forward to the finished product.
I feel so excited with you Kalyn!
I’m glad people are enjoying seeing the photos of the progress. I am completely excited about the project, even if I do complain a little about the hassles. And my contractor and his employees are great! No complaints about anything; life is good around here!
i love my kitchen … now…but I remember a few years ago when it was gutted so my husband could remodel it and the fridge was in the middle of the living room, the stove was in the middle of the dining room and the ingredients and kitchen tools were scattered helter skelter…
It is fun to be the spectator of your project…hang in there…your gonna have such a blast when it is all done. It looks like you have some diligent workers … breaking up all that concrete looked like quite an undertaking
Have a good weekend.
The renovations are coming right along!
Lots going on at your house! How exciting! Thanks for the update.
Hi! I’d like to thank you for the recipe of Indian Chickpea Salad. I was looking for it since I ate in the Happy New Year party in a indian house. I’ll try tomorrow!
Thanks!
Wow! It’s really coming along. I love that excitement of remodeling. You’re going to so appreciate it when it’s done for having seen what all it took to get it to the final product!
Oh dear, renovation is no fun, but if it is finished it will be worth all the stress.
