I’ve been having fun on Fridays posting things I “may or may not” have eaten during the week. This time, I’m confessing that I did eat these Thai dishes when I visited Thai Siam, one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Salt Lake with my dad, stepmother, Rand, and Bradley last week. I had written about Thai Siam last November when we went there the last time Rand and Bradley were in town.

This was the first time my dad and stepmother had ever eaten Thai food, and it was fun sharing it with them. We had Yum Goong, or Thai Shrimp Salad, pretty South Beach Diet friendly except for the sticky white rice. I skipped the rice on this one.

I did have some rice with my Gang Panang, or Panang Curry with Chicken. This was really fresh tasting and just slightly spicy. When I started eating the lower glycemic way and asking about sugar in dishes, I learned that at Thai Siam you can ask for “authentic” and they will prepare the food with less sugar. (A sad commentary on American taste that they feel the need to add extra sugar to this already delicious food.)

This is one of my favorite things to order at Thai Siam, Pla Lad Prik or Deep Fried Salmon with onion, Thai basil, bell pepper, and mushrooms in ginger sauce. I’d love to learn how to make this myself, and I’d put even more Thai basil than they do in the restaurant.

We paid for the lunch at Thai Siam and they have no idea I’m writing this post about the restaurant. I don’t really write restaurant “reviews” but once in a while I talk about restaurants in Salt Lake and Restaurants in other cities where I’ve had great meals.
