Ten Healthy and Amazing Thanksgiving Side Dishes
Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian friends, and for those in the U.S., it’s never too early to start planning the menu!

If you’re in the U.S. you might have groaned when you saw the title of this post.  Of course I realize that Thanksgiving here is still many weeks away, but Canadian Thanksgiving is this coming Monday, and I thought it would be fun to spotlight a few of my favorite Thanksgiving side dishes in time for my friends in Canada and my Canadian friends in the U.S.  I’m also a little extra excited about Thanksgiving this year, because not only is it my favorite holiday, but in my new house I finally have enough room to host Thanksgiving dinner myself, and I’m looking forward to doing that this year!  For me Thanksgiving is all about the side dishes, and whether you’re in the Canada, the U.S., or somewhere else in the world, these are some of my very favorites.

100% Whole Wheat Stuffing “Muffins” with Sausage and Parmesan
(Since I first made this recipe in 2010, these have been a Thanksgiving “must” for my family.  They use reduced-fat sausage, so they’re healthier than most sausage stuffing.)
Onion Gratin with Rosemary and Thyme
(In my family it’s traditional to have some kind of onion dish on Thanksgiving,
and this one is definitely a winner!)
Thanksgiving Spinach Salad with Dried Cranberries, Almonds, and Goat Cheese
(I’d love this salad any time of year!  If goat cheese won’t fly in your family, 
this would also be delicious with Feta or Parmesan.)
Soy-Glazed Sweet Potatoes with Sesame Seeds
(If you’re not a fan of the super-sweet potatoes you often see at Thanksgiving, 
you might like this savory sweet potato dish.)
Roasted Broccoli with Lemon and Pecorino-Romano Cheese
(This can go in the oven when you take out the turkey.  You can also use Parmesan 
if you don’t have the Pecorino-Romano Cheese.)
Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Gorgonzola and Pecans
(It only takes a small amount of Gorgonzola to make this taste really amazing.)
Roasted Green Beans with Balsamic, Mushrooms, and Parmesan
(This has been a top recipe on my blog for many years, and it’s another one 
that can go in the oven when you take the turkey out.)
Green Beans with Lemon Juice and Lemon Zest
(This is one of my favorite ways to cook fresh green beans, and it’s perfect
for Thanksgiving because the beans cook very quickly.)
Arugula, Red Grape, and Shaved Manchego Salad
(No matter what else was on the menu, I’d love this favorite salad for Thanksgiving.
You can make it with spinach if arugula is a hard sell in your family.)
Twice-Baked Sweet Potatoes with Feta and Sumac
(This is unique take on sweet potatoes that I’d love for Thanksgiving.  You could 
make them earlier in the day and reheat when you take the turkey out.)

  4. My family always had onions too. Sauteed in an electric skillet because the stove burners were already busy. Thinly sliced,cooked in margarine!! with a splash of cooking sherry.

I was getting worried about how to do that with the upcoming holidays, but thanks to your recipes, that stress is gone. I know I will be making one of the salads (they both look delicious!), green beans and the stuffing muffins.
