Kalyn’s Picks for Ten Favorite Phase One Recipes from Other Bloggers for 2013

From all the South Beach Diet Phase One Low-Glycemic Recipes Round-ups I’ve posted in 2013, these are my Phase One Picks from other blogs!

When fellow Utah blogger Becky from Project Domestication asked if I wanted to join a blogging event sharing favorite recipes from other bloggers, I loved the idea of spotlighting healthy recipes from some of my blogging friends, but I wasn’t sure how to narrow down the choices.  Then I had the idea of picking my Ten Favorite Phase One Recipes from Other Bloggers from all the South Beach Diet Phase One Low-Glycemic Recipes Round-ups I’ve posted during 2013, which Becky said would be fine.  I’m excited to share these healthy recipes from some of my favorite Utah blogging friends to finish out the year; here’s wishing all my readers a healthy and happy year in 2014!

(Check after my picks for links to some blogging friends who are also sharing Top Ten Lists from other blogs).
Kelley could have gotten my attention just by mentioning kale, but when I heard Kale Caesar Salad with Crispy Garbanzo Bean Croutons from Mountain Mama Cooks, it was the brilliant idea of adding garbanzos to replace croutons that put this recipe on my list of faves!
You might be surprised to see a recipe like this Almond Olive Tapenade from Vintage Mixer on a list for Phase One, because this type of spread is often served with crunchy bread.  But for me, one of the secrets to Phase One is adding flavor whenever you can, and this would make a perfect topping to simple grilled or sauteed fish or chicken breasts.
What’s not to love about this dish of Poached Eggs over Avocado and Smoked Salmon from Cookin’ Canuck? I think this would taste good any time of day!
I love eggplant and goat cheese both, so it’s no surprise that I’d be drawn to these Goat Cheese Stuffed Eggplant Rolls from Laa Loosh
I love this Brussels Sprouts Hash with Egg from Food Republic, and this is another dish I think would taste great any time of day.  Cooking the brussels sprouts at high heat is a technique I think brings out the best flavors of this healthy vegetable.
If you know my tastebuds at all, you know how I’d love this Lime Cilantro Dressing from Tasting Spoons.  I’d replace the sugar in the dressing with Stevia in the Raw Granulated Sweetener to make this approved for Phase One.  Carolyn served this on a salad that had lettuce, tomatoes, radishes, red bell pepper, and Feta cheese, but I think the possibilities are endless.
I love hummus but beans are a limited food for Phase One, so that makes me especially love this idea of Roasted Cauliflower Hummus from Oh My Veggies.  Ignore the pita bread in the photo, and serve with approved veggie dippers like celery, jicama, red bell pepper strips, broccoli, cauliflower, or sugar snap peas for Phase One.
I think I’ve only made one type of fish stew in the whole time I’ve been writing my blog, but I love the sound of this Jamaican Run Down (Fish Stew with Tomatoes, Peppers, and Coconut Milk) from The Perfect Pantry.
This Pistachio Lemon Spaghetti Squash from Our Apron Strings is not only deliciously Phase One, but it’s also vegan, and I love everything about this recipe.

And finally, this Avocado, Chicken, and Walnut Salad from Kayotic Kitchen would make a lovely lunch or dinner for Phase One.  (Avocados are a limited food, so use smallish avocados to make this.)

Whether you’re a South Beach Dieter, or just someone who tries to make healthy food choices, I hope you get to try at least one of the recipes I picked.  Now here’s the list of the other Utah bloggers who are also sharing Ten Favorite Recipes from Other Bloggers for 2013.  Have fun exploring their lists, and you might discover some wonderful blogs you haven’t seen before!
