Not long ago I updated the recipe for Roasted Cauliflower with Parmesan and that reminded me about how simple and delicious roasted cauliflower is. And it’s pretty obvious that I am a roasted cauliflower fan, because back in the archives I have a lot of variations of roasted cauliflower. This Roasted Spicy Cauliflower is a roasted cauliflower recipe that recently got popular on Pinterest, and I was happy to update the original photos that I felt didn’t really show off how tasty it was. If you like spicy food and are a cauliflower fan, this might become one of your favorite ways to cook it!

I originally found the recipe for Roasted Spicy Cauliflower in The South Beach Diet Quick and Easy Cookbook back in 2007, and the  original recipe simply called for red pepper flakes. Although I had a few different types in my pantry, I was excited to use the Aleppo Pepper that Burcu from Almost Turkish Recipes sent me as a gift when we were doing a blog event together called Weekend Herb Blogging.

Burcu described Aleppo Pepper as Turkish flaked hot red pepper and said “You can use this semi moist, delicious smelling, hot, flaked red pepper while cooking or sprinkle it on your foods.” I loved the Aleppo pepper and found it to be seriously addicting. Now flash forward quite a few years and I’ve been to Turkey where I stocked up on Aleppo Pepper, and you can also buy Aleppo Pepper from Amazon.com. I love making this recipe with Aleppo pepper, but just use another type of spicy red pepper to make this if you don’t have that and don’t want to buy it.

Cut up a large head of cauliflower into individual florets and toss with olive oil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Spread it out on a baking sheet and roast at 400F/200C for 25-30 minutes, or until it’s softened to your liking and golden brown. Serve hot. That’s all there is to this easy recipe, but the flavor is really a WOW!

Roasted Spicy Cauliflower

Ingredients:

  • 1 large head cauliflower, cored and cut into florets
  • 2 T extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp. red pepper flakes, or a little more if you want it extra spicy (I used Aleppo pepper; use more or less depending on what kind of red pepper you have)
  • pinch of salt
  • fresh ground black pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400F/200C.
  2. Placed cut up cauliflower, olive oil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper into mixing bowl and stir well to combine and coat cauliflower with oil and red pepper.
  3. Arrange the cauliflower in a single layer on a heavy baking sheet or baking dish.
  4. Roast until cauliflower is softened to your preference and starting to get golden brown, about 25-30 minutes.
  5. Serve hot.

This recipe is from The South Beach Diet Quick and Easy Cookbook; I actually made it just as the recipe is written with the change of using Aleppo Pepper.
