More and More Intriguing Recipes: Weekend Herb Blogging #45 Recap

Fresh thyme is really one of my favorite herbs, and it’s also a favorite of Katerina from Daily Unadventures in Cooking. This week she uses it in her dish of Spicy Sausage and Mushroom Taglietelle with Fresh Thyme, which looks and sounds like it would hit the spot.
It’s very hot in the midwest part of the United States, but Glenna Marie from A Fridge Full of Food knows how to cool off. She whips up some Lavender and Lemon Verbena Limeade and pours herself a big glass. Ruth at Once Upon a Feast has been sharing some delicious-sounding South Beach Diet friendly recipes the last little while, and this week she gives us South Beach Diet Friendly Canneloni. It’s all the fresh basil that goes into the filling of this dish that makes it a herb blogging recipe.

Farmgirl Susan has been growing some amazing looking Kellogg’s Breakfast Tomatoes, which she shows off on In My Kitchen Garden, her kitchen garden blog. Susan uses those tomatoes and a lot of other summer goodness from her garden to create Farmgirl’s Colors of Summer Salad, which sounds fabulous. You also might want to check out the Savory Tomato Pesto Pie on Susan’s main blog, Farmgirl Fare, where Susan is nice enough to put a reminder for WHB every weekend.

Every week I see something delicious come out of the kitchen of Sher from What Did You Eat? and this week is no exception. I really love the sound of Sher’s Black Cod in Tomato-Saffron and Fennel Stew, and her photo is great.
When you see the lovely photo that Haalo from Cook (almost) Anything At Least Once took of the much maligned brussels sprouts, you won’t believe anyone could say anything bad about this vegetable. Even if you’re not sure you’re a brussels sprouts fan, don’t miss the recipe for Brussels Sprouts with Kaiserfleisch and Red Onion (which can also be made with cabbage, if you insist.)

Another great photo of some scrumptious looking fish awaits you at Christine Cooks, where Christine has a great cooking tool to share too. She uses the fish lifter to make Herb Encrusted Pacific Snapper, which looks outstanding.

Next comes another stunning photo from Gattina and the blog with the same name. She shares Cherry Tomatoes Stuffed with Marscapone, which looks like it would taste heavenly. (Thanks Gattina, for the link to my post on how to make slow-roasted tomatoes! I’m making my second batch as I write this.)

Speaking of roasted tomatoes, Ulrike of Kuchenlatein has a little tomato roasting action going on too. Her dish of Garlic and Thyme Roasted Tomatoes sounds like a really great tasting summer side dish.

Chile Peppers are the topic being discussed by Chrispy of Experimentation of Taste, after she got some in her farm share produce delivery. Chrispy used them to make Fresh Salsa, which sound wonderful to me since it contains cilantro!

Paz, from The Cooking Adventures of Chef Paz is a woman after my own heart with her love of feta cheese (or fetta, depending on where you live) and sage. Paz uses these two other ingredients, plus an assortment of Mediterranean herbs to make Marinated Feta which sounds like it would taste wonderfully good. While you’re visiting Paz, be sure to check out the article on food blogging she links to, which mentions Paz and a lot of our other food blogging friends.
Another fabulous looking dish from talented cook Meeta at What’s For Lunch Honey? who focuses on sage as her herb this week. Meeta says this recipe for Gnocchi in Sage Garlic Butter is easier than others she’s tried, and her results are quite impressive.

Nearly every week Surfindaave from The Serendipitous Chef amazes me by discovering another new ingredient I haven’t seen before, and this week he does it again. Dave is experimenting with Shishito Peppers which he uses in Shishito and Corn Salsa, served over burgers that TeenBoy has spiced up quite a bit as well.

Genie, The Inadvertent Gardener, has inspired me again with another way to use some of my tomatoes. Genie’s version of Yellow Gazpacho looks so fine, I’m embarassed to admit I’ve never even made gazpacho of any color. (Have added Genie’s recipe to del.icio.us cookbook and I’ll get right on it.)

Riana of Garlic Breath brings us another ingredient I haven’t heard of, gariguettes, a type of very sweet, baby strawberry. Riana adds them to bananas to make Naner (and strawberry) Clafoutis, which sound like they would taste exquisite.
Another new plant ingredient! I’m beyond excited of course. This time the lovely Anna of Morsels and Musings is blogging about Sahlep, also called Salep or Sahlab. If you’ve never heard of this, like me, it’s a type of Turkish winter drink, made from the dried powdered roots of a mountain orchid. Anna fell in love with it, and it certainly sounds delicious.

Even though I’ve been in a bit of a tomato frenzy lately, my own post for WHB was about wild rice, and I made Brown and Wild Rice Salad with Snow Peas and Peppers. I served this for a dinner for three good friends, and everyone like it a lot.
Now, I promised you that were going to an exotic location next weekend, so how does Mumbai, India sound for an exciting location for Weekend Herb Blogging. I know I’m a bit time-zone challenged myself. What do people think about that idea?)
