Kalyn’s Kitchen is my personal blog, where I share recipes I’m cooking in my own kitchen.  I hope my blog is a resource for anyone who likes the kind of deliciously healthy low-carb recipes this blog is known for.

Answering Questions from Readers:
I love to hear from people who are readers of Kalyn’s Kitchen and will do my best to answer simple questions, although I don’t have the training or the time to give full-fledged dieting advice. If your question is about a specific recipe, please consider leaving it as a comment on that post so others can benefit from the answer.

How to Leave a Comment:
To leave a comment, just click where it says “Leave a Comment” at the end of the post. If you have a website you can link your site to your comment signature, but links which appear spammy will be deleted. Some comments will come to me in an e-mail and won’t show up on the blog until I publish them, and I’m not sitting by the computer waiting for comments 100% of the time, so thanks for your patience!

Reach me Through Social Media:
I try to check in with Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest a few times each day, and I try to respond to people who reach me there, but I can’t always keep up with comments on social media so if you really need to reach me, leaving a comment on the blog or sending e-mail is better.

My Thoughts About Reviewing Cookbooks or Products
This blog is about what I’m cooking in my own kitchen, so I’m only interested in talking about cookbooks or products I’m personally using and would happily buy again. Because I have limited time to try new products or cookbooks, I have decided to no longer accept books or other products for review.  I do love to mention cookbooks I’m using and talk about my favorite products on the blog, but when I do that I enjoy being able to tell my readers that I bought them myself. (If you’re a food blogger who has written a book, feel free to drop me a line to let me know about it and if it interests me I’ll be happy to buy your book.)

  2. Tuesday, the cans are 14.5 oz size.

    Bob, I don't think I will ever start doing that, as I have over 2,000 recipes and once I do it on newer ones people will expect it on every recipe. I already work hours and hours and hours on every post, so I think if you need that you will have to calculate it yourself. If you look under FAQ there is a link to a site I recommend.

  3. Love your site, do wish that you could post the nutritional breakdown I.e. grams of fat, etc. I'm doing weight watchers and this would be great!

  7. Janet, this is one of the many things that people have different opinions about. I used a crockery bowl (not plastic) and personally I don't believe it's harmful.

  8. Re your baked cheesy cauliflower tots….it is never recommended to microwave anything which is covered by cling wrap as you say to do with the cut up cauliflower. I know you are all for healthy! This is not! Thank you! Love your site.

  9. Sorry I somehow missed this comment earlier. I don't have too many salad dressing recipes posted separately from the salads I made with them, but you can find the ones I do have by entering "salad dressing" into the search bar.

  10. Hi Kalyn, I've been following your blog for quite a while and love all your recipes! I think my (and my kids') favorite is your Mexican Baked Eggs. This is my quick "go-to" recipe when I can't think of anything to fix for dinner during the week.

    I eat a lot of salads, usually thrown together with whatever we have in the fridge, but I like homemade dressings. Do you have a section that I can just view all your salad dressings? I always like to try new dressings, but don't know which salad recipes to look through to find them.

  11. Diane, I use my phone on the site often to find recipes, but as far reading it daily, there is nothing I know of that will do that. I would have to pay someone lots of money to make the site mobile friendly to make that happen, as far as I know.

    Just want to share with you that I love your site. We started perusing your site when we decided to do the Low Carb diet. We have since changed it up a bit to the Fast Metabolism diet as a means to incorporate all the things we like in the proper combination. Your site is so multi faceted, it fits all "diets" and lifestyles. Thank you for your commitment. You are one of my top "go to" sites to feed my family a healthy meal.

  16. Hi Kalyn, I am planning to make your ground turkey/sweet potato stew for dinner tonight .looks amazing! It calls for a can of coconut milk. Can I substitute the coconut milk in a box? It's sold in the supermarket near rice or almond milk. I'm not sure if they are the same thing…thanks far any insight!

    Glad to hear you are enjoying the blog. Not sure I have any brilliant ideas for snacks, but if you enter "snacks" or "snack" into the google search bar on the blog, you will find a post I wrote about this, as well as any recipe I've mentioned that I eat as a snack. For me, lots of veggies and dip and sugar snap peas, and of course string cheese!

  25. Oh my goodness…I have made so many things from your blog and have pretty much LOVED all of them! I was wondering if you have any ideas on snacks that can be made at the beginning of the week to have throughout the week. I'm a full-time working mom of 2 children and am also taking college courses in order to get my masters degree, so time is not always on my side! You seem to have an abundance of good food ideas so I'm interested in what kind of snacks you indulge in. Thank you!

  30. Do you have an alternate version of this recipe for those of us who are seriously lactose-intolerant? Milk cooked into a recipe goes through a chemical change that doesn't bother me. But I can't eat anything with cheese cooked into it. Any ideas? Thanks.

    I just stumbled upon this website via Pinterest and I am in heaven. I have yet to make anything, but will start this week, as I will be starting the SB diet. I need to loose a few lbs before a surgery I have coming up. Thank you for creating this website and organizing all the recipes the way you have (by phase). This is a dream come true for me!! I love your meals, it has helped me to try out other stuff instead of the same recipes in the south beach diet books…I lost weight with the south beach diet recipes before but I've put on a little weight and wanted to try new meals has it got a bit boring eating the same thing over and over again…not that south beach diet meals are bad but on phase one, I needed something different to keep me motivated which your meals has….Your'e an inspiration!!

  34. Hi Kalyn – wow! I'm on Day 5 of Phase 1 and am loving the SBD so far, and especially, especially the fantastic blog and recipes from you. I had the chicken/red and green cabbage/onion coleslaw tonight for dinner and it was delish!

    My question to you is: I know you are not affiliated with SBD. However, is there some way that I can enter the ingredients from one of your recipes onto their site and log it into my journal? I know this is possible with WW but I can't find anywhere to make this happen on SBD.

  36. Hi Lindsey,
    I already spend far too much time on the blog, so I am definitely not going to post grocery lists. You can make your own list using the Ziplist Feature though (on the right.) If you need to find ideas for recipes using similar ingredients, just enter the ingredients into the search bar. That's also a good way to find a recipe to use what you have on hand.

I am a colorectal cancer survivor and it has been recommended to eat a low carb, low sugar, high protein diet. Your meals really hit that right on the head.     I really know nothing about insulin resistance disorder so I hesitate giving advice to someone who is using the diet for a medical condition. I do recommend thoroughly read the original South Beach Diet book though; I think that will answer most of these questions about things like portion size and what foods are best. Also you might check with your doctor for some of these questions, such as the one about having another snack. Good luck.

  41. Good Morning Kalyn, My name is Sara and live in Pennsylvaia.My doctor recently find out my insulin resistance level was very high and also fatty liver. I started the phase one of South beach baed on my doctor recommendation and I struggle with the recipes. I see here that youhave so many different recipes. I want to know if I canuse your recipes for phase one and what about snacking. Im only eating the suggested snacks in the book. I am actually following only the book recipes and meal plan. what about the portions?? am confused with the portions, do i need to measure everything and also Can i have the suggested snack and latr if I crave for something have a nother snack??? Thanks for your help!!

  42. The only thing I can think of offhand is Roasted Garbanzo Beans. There are a couple of recipes for them on the blog if you use the search box.

    Thank you for your superb blog. I've been eating low GI/SBD-style for some time now but due to some health problems have recently started trying to cut wheat from my diet. Your phase 1 recipes have been a tremendous help to me during this time – the eggplant pizzas were the thing that made me think 'you know what? I can make this wheat-free thing work!'. So a thousand thank yous!

  45. Hi Kalyn – My hubby lost 40 lbs on SBD 10 years ago but has slowly gained it back. Neither of us was too excited about starting over with another 2 weeks of eggs, chicken and zucchini. Since finding your blog we've gone through P1 without feeling deprived – we're just just eating delicious food and we have so many choices. Thanks for all your hard work – tonight we're having chicken (piccata) and zucchini (cheesy baked) but it's so good!

    I am sure you get many comments and emails on a daily basis, but I just wanted to thank you so much for your blog. My husband and I were on the South Beach diet a few months back, and fell off about around the holidays. We are now back on our second week of phase one. This time around, we are cooking recipes from your blog and never before have we actually enjoyed this phase!!

    We have found most of the recipes out there to be unsatisfying leaving us feeling like phase one was basically oppressive and hard to stick with. Your recipes are not only delicious, but help us stick to our diet goals. Who would have ever imagined I could get my husband to eat any green vegetable — let alone KALE!! I don't normally contact the authors of the blogs we use, but yours has been an invaluable tool and I am just so grateful for all of your hard work. This is exactly what we needed.
