Friday Food Porn: KitchenK in St. Louis

On Fridays I like to post food shots I’ve taken of things that I *may or may not* have eaten. These are often things that aren’t necessarily South Beach Diet food, so if you’re a South Beach fan, beware. Remember, I was on vacation when I ate one of these meals!

What do you think a group of St. Louis food bloggers would order if they went to lunch together? What was surprising to me when I visited KitchenK in St. Louis with the group of bloggers and spouses who were having lunch together after the food photography/food styling workshop organized by my great friend Alanna, was how many people ordered the same things.

Vegetarian Burrito, ordered by one person

Eggplant and Goat Cheese Melt, ordered by three people.

Jamaican Reuben Sandwich, ordered by three people.

Cubana Enchilada, ordered by three people.

I’m sure there are a number of you people out there reading my blog who are getting to know my food preferences quite well, so take a guess. Which of these tasty (non-South Beach) offerings do you think I ordered when I was in St. Louis?

  1. The Jamaican connection with the Reuben certainly seems tenuous. I’ve never seen one of those served on the Island!

    P.S. – Nice photos!

  2. Oh, i meant fourth! *wink* you know what i meant 🙂

  3. I had a friend who’s a Jamaican and i ate Jerk Chicken and Ackee & Salt Fish with rice & peas a lot! Yes, they eat cabbage. Boiled mostly as a side dish. I’m not quite sure if they boiled it with garlic but it was quite nice.

I’m not quite sure what dish you went for but i myself, if i was there, would certainly go the third dish purely because it looks so lovely laden with sauce… yummy!

  4. The only thing that seemed different in the Reuben was having cabbage instead of Sauerkraut. I know next to nothing about Jamaican food (jerk, ackee, that’s about it) so does anyone know if they eat a lot of cabbage? Also maybe the pepperjack cheese is reminiscent of the scotch bonnet chiles, I really don’t know.

  5. Anything surprising in it? But obviously interesting post!

  6. Yes, lovely mouthwatering food indeed!

  7. Kalyn,
    What made the rueben Jamaican?

  8. Hi Everyone,

I guess I’m not completely transparent on the blog because I ordered the Cuban Enchilada which had “Cuban brisket, black beans, and pepper jack cheese.)

The Jamaican Reuben said “with smothered cabbage and pepperjack on black bread.” I’m not sure why that makes it Jamaican??

Next time I think I’d get the eggplant!

  9. It all looks so good…but I’m curious…what’s a Jamaican reuben sandwich?

  10. YUM is right! Eggplant and goat cheese, two of my favs! I think I need to go to St. Louis:)

  11. Yes – enchiladas and burritos. Sigh.

  12. My husband always likes to order Reuben sandwich, mmm, Jamaican style definitely sounds interesting. But what really make me drool is those potato chips!

  13. I love Reubens my favorite….yummy.

  14. Whatever had the most cilantro! Although that eggplant looks mighty interesting too …

  15. Kalyn,

My vote is with the vegetarian burrito, just because I’m guessing that was the most cilantro-heavy dish. But honestly, they all look so good to me that I’m less concerned about your own food preferences and more concerned about keeping myself from running out and trying to locate one of each of those dishes…

I’m intrigued by the Jamaican Reuben — what made it Jamaican?
